  1. Complete a FAFSA (new applicants) or Renewal FAFSA (returning applicants)
Submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows you to be considered for federal student loans. If you filed a FAFSA last year, it will save you time to file a Renewal FAFSA. You must know your Federal PIN to file a Renewal FAFSA.
    • Request a Federal PIN
You can save time by using a Federal PIN to "sign" your FAFSA electronically.. If you have an e-mail address, you will receive your PIN via e-mail within 72 hours. If not, you will receive your PIN in the mail within seven to ten days. If you have misplaced your PIN, you can visit the Web site above and request a duplicate PIN. Make sure to verify your e-mail and mailing address at the same time and update the information if it has changed. You do not need to have a Federal PIN to file a FAFSA. You can also sign by printing a signature page and mailing it or turning it in to our office.
    • You will need your prior year Federal Income Tax and W-2 Forms to accurately complete your FAFSA application. If you lost your copy, please call at (800) 829-1040 for a free copy of your tax return. If your file is selected for verification these documents must also be submitted to the college.
  1. Turn in a Request for Financial Aid Form
All students must submit an Emperor's College Request for Financial Aid form before we can process your file and determine your financial aid award. A new form must be completed for each financial aid award year. Please print, read, complete and sign the form. (pdf document, paper version available at the college)
    • The following information must be completed:
      • Estimated Average quarterly units you plan to take for the coming 3 quarters.
      • Estimated Graduation Date.
      • The amount and type of student loan you wish to borrow for the coming 3 quarters.
(It is HIGHLY recommended that you prepare a quarterly budget to assist you in determining the amount of loan required. (see www.edwise.org ))
      • Acknowledge financial aid conditions as posted in your Student Manual.
      • Your choice of lender.
      • Sign request form.
  1. Confirm your Admission Status
To be eligible for financial aid, you must be admitted to Emperor's College and enrolled in the Masters program at least half-time.

If you wish to apply for admission to EMPEROR’S COLLEGE, you need to submit an application to the Admissions Department, including Part 4 (Financial Aid).
  1. Complete your File
After you submit your FAFSA and receive your student aid report (SAR), contact the financial aid office to learn what steps are needed to complete your file.

Occasionally, additional documentation is required, such as:
    • Verification - approximately one in three applications are selected for verification. This is a process where the federal government asks that we verify the accuracy of the financial information reported on the FAFSA. Students who are selected for verification are required to submit the Verification Worksheet for Independent Students, along with copies of signed tax returns or other documentation of income.
    • Certain circumstances may require additional documentation before you can be eligible for aid. Examples of such circumstances include, confirmation of citizenship, lack of satisfactory academic progress, or selective service registration issues.
    • Do not turn in any documents that are not requested by our office. Doing so can delay your financial aid award.

CHOOSING A LENDER FOR YOUR FINANCIAL AID:

When you are applying for Financial Aid you will be asked to select a lender. (Step 6 above) The lender is the bank that will process your student loan funds. The interest rates charged for Stafford and Grad PLUS loans are federally regulated and therefore identical for all lenders. The fees charged at each disbursal, the benefits at repayment time, and the service you get throughout the life of your loan, can vary somewhat between lenders.

Students may select any lender that processes federal Title IV student loans for Emperor's College. The College has selected a few lenders which we feel meet the criteria in their service to students and institutions and expect to add more. You may review the benefits offered by the selected lenders at the Great Lakes Fastchoice website.

You may choose an eligible lender even if they are not on the FastChoice list. However, if you choose to use an alternate lender please allow for extra time for the college to set up appropriate processes with your lender to submit applications and exchange loan document signatures and to assure your disbursement are not delayed.

The lenders that we have already set up student loan processing with demonstrate a consistent level of service in the following areas:

  • Products - Education loan resources for students that are fair, competitive, accessible, and tailored to the educational needs of borrowers.
  • Pricing – Interest rates, origination, guarantee, and processing fees, if any. Borrower benefits during the in-school and repayment periods.
  • Processing – Timely and efficient processing of loans, including convenience in the application process for borrowers, and for the institution. Customer service provided during the loan application and disbursement process.
  • Customer service – Service provided to student borrowers and the College, from initial application process throughout the lifetime of the loan, including the repayment period. Such services include dedicated customer service phone numbers for students, web-based services, and debt management programs.

No one single factor is determinative. Each lender’s performance is reviewed and evaluated on an ongoing basis by the Financial Aid Office.
