Student Demographic

While the average master’s degree student is 32 years old and holds a bachelors degree, Emperor’s students range from 20 to 60 years of age with educational backgrounds from associates degrees to PhDs to MDs.

A recent trend has shown that more students are entering acupuncture school at a younger age because of the increased acceptance and patient desire for complimentary medicine. Now more individuals begin their professional careers as acupuncturists than switch to acupuncture as a second or third career.

For many of our students, a first-hand experience with acupuncture led to their interest in pursuing it themselves. However, there are many students who begin the masters degree program before ever having their first acupuncture treatment.

Just fewer than half of Emperor’s students have worked in the health and healthcare field, such as nurses, doctors, chiropractors, dentists, massage therapists, yoga instructors and fitness trainers.

Most masters students are full-time, allowing them 10-15 hours a week for part-time employment. While it is possible, a smaller percentage of students continue full-time employment while pursuing their masters degree.

Approximately 70% of our students are Caucasian, 20% are Asian and the remaining 10% are Persian, Hispanic and African American. 70% of our student body is female, 30% is male.
